2009 Western Sevens
The 2009 Western Sevens Schools Rugby Union carnival was an enormous success with over 300 players from 26 teams competing at Emerald State High School from October 16th - 18th 2009.
The carnival which ran over 3 days attracted school teams from Mackay, Rockhampton, Yeppoon, Longreach, Barcaldine, Emerald and the Central Highlands and this year teams from Brisbane’s Clontarf State High School.
St Brendan’s College, Yeppoon were the big winners taking out the Cup finals in both the Under 16 and Under 14 Boys divisions while individual honors were awarded to St Brendan’s Cooper Bambling who was named Best and Fairest in the Under 14’s and Corey Oates named Player of the Carnival.
In other results hosts Emerald State High School took out the inaugural Under 14 Girls Cup final and St Patrick’s Primary Emerald the Under 12 Cup final.
Central Highlands Development Manager Rob Donaghue declared the carnival an enormous success and said that it demonstrated that rugby is continuing to develop strongly in Central Queensland. “We had a magnificent weekend of entertaining rugby and everyone involved – the players, coaches, volunteers and supporters all contributed to a fantastic carnival!”
