GPS v Brothers

Brothers
38 Round 02 29

GPS remain undefeated this season after beating reigning Premiers Brothers 38-29 in an enthralling contest at Ashgrove Sports Ground.

The Gallopers successfully defended the Caxton Cup and claimed their second grand finalist scalp in a fortnight after last week beating 2009 runners up Souths.

Brothers posted first points when hooker Tom Sayer scored after a sideline dash and captain Dallan Murphy converted. However GPS responded quickly and after multiple lead changes gradually began to pull ahead, eventually putting plenty of points between them and Brothers until a late fightback which narrowed the gap.

GPS coach Matt Pini was pleased with his side’s performance in securing the bonus point win but concerned that they took their foot off the pedal late in the match.

“We’re very pleased with the outcome but a bit disappointed with once again letting them in at the end so that’s something we can work on and fix,” he said.

Brothers coach Zane Hilton said GPS were too good on the day and set his sight's on next week against University, an annual grudge match and their first home game of the competition so far.

“We didn’t play 80 minutes of football unfortunately, we played probably 60 minutes of good football and GPS capitalised and hung in there and played well,” Hilton said.
