Getting Ready for Another Season

Getting Ready for Another Season requires clubs to think about and take action on a lot of things.

 

Planning helps to:

·                     Communicate all club activities to members

·                     Loook at where the club has come from, where it is now, where it wants to go and how it is going to get there

·                     Identify the main objectives of the club

·                     Encourage members to get invovled in the development of the club

·                     Ensure that resources (human, physical and financial) are used effectively

·                     Bring order into the hectic business of running a Rugby Club

 

The planning process of a club generally focuses on Operational Plans, however you should also be aware of and consider the impact of other types of plans. Operational planning focuses on day to day activities as opposed to club strategic planning that looks at long term objectives.

Example of Planning  - Charters Towers Rugby Union Club

 

The Charters Towers Rugby Union Club held a meeting in 2005 to discuss the direction of thier club and start to put some plans in place. Charters Towers RUC at that time only fielded a reserve grade side in the TDRU competition. From this meeting they establsihed some key objectives the main priority being to grow the size of the club to field teams in the TDRU junior competition.

 

From this planning document the club developed operational plans and actions to achieve thier goals.

 

At the end of 2008 Charters Towers RUC had achieved thier goals of playing in the Junior Competition and had gone on to host a QCRU Heelers game. While they haven't achieved all thier goals they have put in place a process that directs the club and its members into being the best that they can be.
