Three Queenslanders have been selected to take part in the ARU National Development Program for referees and referee coaches for 2007/08, which will include a four-day camp at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).

Referee Lucas Hogarth (Mackay) and referee coaches David Doherty (Rockhampton) and Greg McHugh (Townsville), will join nine others from around Australia to take part in the National Development Program.

Manager of the National Referee Academy Michael Tanzer and ARU Referee Development Squad Manager Terry O’Connor will join with consultants to run the four-day AIS camp.

Queensland Rugby’s  State Education Manager David Hanham says the program is aimed at developing referees across regional areas.

“The purpose of the program is basically to assist in developing the country areas which includes your referees and referee coaches, who mentor the referees through the system.

“The program will provide a structure in the country areas so these guys can develop their own referees and develop themselves in professional development but also develop the whole region,” Hanham said.
