QR Qld Reds v Sharks

Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane
7:30pm - 7/4/2007
Sharks
16 Round 09 59
  FT

The QR Queensland Reds fell victim to multiple Shark attacks at Suncorp Stadium, succumbing to a 59-16 loss to the pacy visitors in their Investec Super 14 match.

The Sharks, who showed why they were a top four team in 2007, scored nine tries to the Reds' one, a typically determined effort by Reds skipper John Roe.

The Roe try and penalties from Clinton Schifcofske had put the Reds in the lead midway through the first half, but two Sharks tries either side of halftime gave the visitors the momentum they needed.

Showing skill and speed, they piled on the tries in the second half to condemn the Reds to their eighth straight loss and the largest losing margin in Super Rugby since their 48-3 loss to the Crusaders in 1997.

"There's no excuse for it. We've come off the bye and were really focused on this game," a shattered Roe said after the match.

"I think it's just the six inches between the ears ... we're just not mentally tough enough."

Sharks 59 (Pietersen 2, Venter 2, Botes, Barritt, Murray, Du Plessis, Daniel tries, Pienaar 4 con, pen, Steyn 3 con) def Reds 16 (John Roe try, Clinton Schifcofske 3 pen, con). Crowd 14,443
